The Salamanca district is one of the most prestigious areas of Madrid, located just above Parque de El Retiro. It is home to the Madrid Golden Mile, with the best shopping in the capital. Calle Serrano is a famous street that is home to many popular designer boutiques, as well as stylish restaurants. This neighbourhood is one of the most sought-after areas in the city, as well as an investment hotspot. Salamanca has some of the best bars in the region. It is also home to boutique hotels and lavish apartments for rent and for sale. There are local buses than run through the district of Salamanca to Madrid city centre, or you can take the metro. You can find here the National Archaeological Museum, which has a collection of ancient cave art and pottery. On the outskirts of Salamanca is the Plaza de Toros, one of the most famous in Spain. Bullfighting is no longer permitted but visitors are encouraged to do a tour of the arena.
