This unique property was declared Bien de interés cultural (National heritage). The architectural style is mostly Gothic-Mudejar although there are also Arab, Isabelino and neoclassical details.
The castles origins arent clear, some researchers believe that it goes back to the 8th century -ABD-Al Rahmaans construction- others however consider it to have been made by Almanzor (10th century).
Unfortunately, no relics of such a remote period are still found at the castle, the arches however can be traced back to the 12th and 13th century.
In the 14th century the castle was the Aragon kings abode.
In the 15th century, John the II gave the property to D. Álvaro de Luna. It was later acquired by the Catholic Kings.
Apart from the castle, the property also boasts a traditional mill, campsite, a crypt, warehouses...
