Rest of Spain

Other regions outsied the community of Madrid.

Madrid was founded under Arabic rule in the 9th century AD. However, it has been inhabited since prehistoric times.

It was named as the capital of Spain in the 16th century. Since then, it has since seen numerous historical events pass through its grand buildings and streets.

Today, it is the financial, cultural and political hub of Spain. The city prides itself in keeping a good balance between being modern and world-class, yet still preserving its Spanish essence.

One of Madrid's greatest features is its architecture. The differing neighbourhoods offer great variety in style. The historical areas have Austrian, French and Castilian influences from ruling monarchs across time. The more modern areas offer properties that range from classic designs to avant-garde and high-tech apartments and villas.
